Our 5 frame nucleus colonies are made up throughout the spring of each year. The queen is grafted from our best perfoming overwintered local nothern hybrid queens in the spring, when weather allows. Queens is openly mated. All the bees are raised in RI and southeast Massachusetts locally.
The hives vary in strength, but should have at least 3 frames of brood, a frame or two mixture of pollen/bee bread and nectar/honey. The frames should be covered on top with bees when the nuc is opened.
The nucs are ready starting from Late May till July. This is weather dependent.
We use Pro Nuc boxes and actively encourage recycling. If the boxes are returned within 30 days of delivery, we will refund $20 for each box.
